Panjim Footballers outplayed Velsao Sports & Cultural Club 3-1

Panjim Footballers outplayed Velsao Sports & Cultural Club 3-1 in the CAM Goa Professional League (Relegation League) at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.

Doyal Alves scored a brace and was rightly named the player of the match for Panjim while Britto Pereira was the other goal getter for the winners. For Velsao, K Vinoth scored the lone goal of the game in the 44th minute.

The match started with both teams displaying their intent to win, but it was Panjim who seized the early initiative and went ahead in the 17th minute.

The first goal was a beauty to watch as Britto Pereira scored a stunning goal from a counter attack, covering some ground and unleashing a cracking strike from 35-yards distance, which left the keeper with no chance. Panjim continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 30th minute through Doyal Alves, who curled in a delightful ball at the back of the net from inside the box.

Velsao tried to make a comeback and managed to pull one back just before the breather through K Vinoth, who broke the entire Panjim defence and calmly placed the ball past the keeper. The goal gave Velsao a ray of hope, and they started the second half with all guns blazing. They almost found the equalizer when Sheldon Pereira tried his luck from a distance, but Preston Rego, the Panjim custodian, made an excellent save to deny the goal.

Panjim, on the other hand, kept their composure and continued to push for more goals. In the 70th minute, Doyal Alves danced his way past the Velsao defence and scored a solo goal, giving no chance for the rival keeper. The goal sealed the victory for Panjim Footballers and rightly earned Doyal Alves the player of the match award.

The match was a treat for the football fans, as both teams displayed a great level of skills and determination. Panjim Footballers were the better side on the day and deserved the win. Velsao, on the other hand, will need to regroup and come back stronger in their next game.
